From Darjeeling’s tea estates to the forests of the Dooars: the most beautiful places in West Bengal to marry, and what it takes to plan a wedding in each.
Why North Bengal
North Bengal offers some of the most captivating landscapes for destination weddings, from tea estate hills in Darjeeling and serene ridge resorts in Kalimpong to riverside retreats in the Dooars and well-connected hospitality bases in Siliguri and Jalpaiguri.
KHASKEL builds destination plans around the realities of each location. We consider terrain, seasonal conditions, property capabilities, vendor availability, guest movement and local logistics, so your celebration is planned around the destination, not against it.

Darjeeling, Kurseong, Mirik and Kalimpong: tea estates, cool air and Himalayan views.

01
Tea estates, colonial hotels and Kanchenjunga at sunrise.
At 2,045 metres, Darjeeling is the classic hill wedding: heritage hotels and tea-estate bungalows, the toy train of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999) and, on clear mornings, Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain, filling the northern sky.
The beauty comes with mountain realities: narrow roads, cold evenings and weather that can change within the hour. We manage mountain logistics, weather contingencies and intimate gatherings across Darjeeling’s finest properties.
What we plan for here

02
Tea gardens and white orchids, halfway up the hill.
Kurseong sits between Siliguri and Darjeeling, its name often linked to the white orchids that grow on its slopes. Ringed by celebrated tea gardens such as Makaibari and Castleton, it offers the hill-station setting with a shorter climb for guests and a gentler climate, some 560 metres below Darjeeling.

03
A lake town among tea gardens and orange orchards.
Mirik is built around Sumendu Lake and surrounded by tea estates such as Thurbo and Gopaldhara, with orange orchards on the slopes. Quieter and smaller than Darjeeling, it suits couples who want a calm, lakeside setting for a close guest list.
What we plan for here

04
Quiet ridges, flower nurseries and garden estates.
Kalimpong is gentler than Darjeeling: lower, quieter and greener, with winter nights around 8°C. Known for its flower nurseries and orchids, its monasteries and its colonial-era buildings, its quiet hill ridges, expansive garden estates and tranquil resorts suit multi-day private celebrations that need thoughtful guest hospitality and spatial planning.
What we plan for here
Forest and riverside resorts at the foot of the Himalaya.

05
Forest resorts, rivers and the edge of Gorumara.
Below the hills lie the Dooars: tea gardens, rivers such as the Murti and the Jaldhaka, and the forests of Gorumara and Jaldapara national parks, home to the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. Resorts around Lataguri, Murti and Chalsa offer open lawns and banquet space for larger celebrations.
Expansive riverine plains, forest resorts and open-air lawns: we coordinate large-scale production, lighting infrastructure and multi-generational hospitality.
What we plan for here
The connected plains, for large guest lists and simple journeys.

06
The gateway city, built for large guest lists.
Siliguri is where almost every guest arrives: by air into Bagdogra International Airport, 12 km from the city, or by rail into New Jalpaiguri (NJP), the largest railway station in North-East India. Its hotels and banquet venues make it the natural choice for large weddings, and a practical base for celebrations that also travel into the hills.
What we plan for here

07
On the Teesta, between Siliguri and the Dooars.
Jalpaiguri sits on the Teesta river, close to Siliguri and on the road into the Dooars. It is home to KHASKEL, at Racecourse, Police Line, so our local vendor networks, venues and logistics are close at hand.
What we plan for here
Cooch Behar’s royal character, and estates found nowhere on a map.

08
A palace town of Italian Renaissance grandeur.
Cooch Behar was the seat of the Koch kings. Its palace, built in 1887 under Maharaja Nripendra Narayan in the Italian Renaissance style, is now a museum, and the town keeps its royal, ceremonial character. With historic palatial influences and rich cultural traditions, we shape wedding settings that honour family heritage and regional customs with dignity.
What we plan for here

09
Ancestral homes, private tea gardens and secluded resorts.
Ancestral estates, private tea gardens or secluded eco-resorts. We assess venue feasibility, power requirements and logistical flow before the plan is built.

When to marry
Around 80% of the region’s rain falls between June and September. October to April is the wedding season, with cold, clear winters in the hills.

Every destination
Every destination brings its own conditions. These are resolved before the celebration reaches the ground.
Hills, rivers and forest each change how a celebration is built and how guests reach it.
Monsoon, mist and mountain evenings are planned for, not hoped against.
Capacity, power, kitchens and rooms are checked before a venue is recommended.
Local partners are matched to the requirement and coordinated around one plan.
Arrivals, transfers and transitions between functions are mapped in advance.
Permissions, access and supply routes are resolved before the celebration reaches the ground.
Planning a destination wedding
Darjeeling, Kurseong, Mirik and Kalimpong for hill weddings among tea estates; the Dooars, around Lataguri, Murti and Chalsa, for forest and riverside resorts; Siliguri and Jalpaiguri for large celebrations with easy travel; and Cooch Behar for a heritage setting. The right choice depends on your guest count, season and the style of celebration.
October to early December and February to April usually bring the clearest skies and most comfortable days. December and January are clear but cold, with nights close to freezing. Around 80% of Darjeeling’s rain falls between June and September, so the monsoon is best avoided for outdoor celebrations.
Most guests fly into Bagdogra International Airport, 12 km from Siliguri, or arrive by train at New Jalpaiguri (NJP). From Bagdogra, Darjeeling is about 70 km (3 to 3.5 hours by road), Kalimpong about 80 km (around 3 hours) and Lataguri in the Dooars about 70 km (around 2 hours).
Yes. Tea estates around Darjeeling, Kurseong, Mirik and the Dooars include bungalows, resorts and lawns suited to private celebrations. We assess access, power, accommodation and capacity before recommending an estate.
Hill properties are generally boutique, so intimate and mid-size weddings are the most comfortable. For larger guest lists, Siliguri’s hotels and the resorts of the Dooars offer more space, or guests can be spread across neighbouring properties.
Gorumara and the other national parks close each year from 16 June to 15 September, and the monsoon brings heavy rain. October to March is the most reliable season for celebrations in the Dooars.
KHASKEL is based in Jalpaiguri, at Racecourse, Police Line, in the heart of North Bengal and about an hour from Siliguri, with local vendor networks across the region.
Yes. We plan and execute destination weddings across India and select international locations, managing logistics, vendors and guest experience from start to finish.
